3 mile wo, 4 mile tempo run, 3 mile wd

Did this workout on the greenbelt. The weather had been rainy and windy earlier but it was great when I ran. I had a crappy night of sleep last night and tried to take a nap after work, but to no avail. But I needed a good effort since I hadn't had a good workout in a while.

Splits were 5:46, 5:44, 5:41, 5:34 for 22:46 and a 5:41 average. I felt pretty good the whole way and just tried to keep it steady. I did pick it up the last half mile in 2:45. On the warmdown, I did 6 x 100 hard strides to work on some turnover.

Johnny,

That's a great tempo run and a good week so far. Are you still racing tomorrow? If so, looks like you're running through it...

I was thinking about going down to watch the 8k champs in Central Park but I think I'll skip it since half the field has dropped out.

Danny,

I've decided to skip that race tomorrow. I'm just worn out from no sleep and think I'd be better off just getting some training in. I'm tenatively planning a 5k in Vancouver BC at the end of spring break (3/29). The field has been pretty deep in the past and it would be a good chance to get in a fast race.

That race would be cool in Central Park. Who dropped out?

When do you race again? Any plans for this weekend?

Originally it was going to be Ritz, Webb, Abdi, and some others, but Ritz, Abdi, and one of the Torreses dropped out. Looks like the other Torres won it, and Webb had a bad race. I decided to sleep in instead.

I think I'm racing a local 4M on 3/30. Nothing exciting planned this weekend, but next weekend is Easter and we are spending 4 days on Block Island, Rhode Island.

Thursday night I ran 48min on the treadmill at the Y, it said I covered 8mi, but I'm pretty sure that's not accurate. Could be angled downhill. Are the treadmills at your gym trustworthy?

You should be up on the mileage board again this week after your long run today, right under Sasha! Your trip should be great, the Northwest is usually just starting to get nice that time of year. Let's hope it doesn't rain too much. I've never been to Vancouver but everyone else seems to love it.

Nice splits, John. Your training is looking good.

Dan,

Nice treadmill run. I don't have any gauge of accuracy for treadmills, other than the one we have at home is off. To run 7:00 pace feels like a sprint. The ones at Gold feel comparable to outdoor efforts.

Regardless, you are obviously getting fit. Have a good time in Rhode Island.

John
