Spirit of the Magic Valley Half Marathon - DNF at mile 9

6:12, 6:17 for first 2 miles, then calves started to go. Directed off course with another runner before mile 3, ended up shorting the course by at least a minute or two. By mile 4 both feet asleep and calves cramping. Loosened shoes at mile 6, stretched calves, walked and hobbled a mile or two, felt pop in calf just before mile 9 and was done.

Not sure why the lower leg problems in the last 2 races but my guesses:

* Too few overall miles

* Not enough longer workouts/tempos to simulate a half marathon

* Inadequate warmup/stretching

* Shoes - maybe I need to wear sturdy trainers all the time. I'm not running fast enough and weigh too much to try racing in flats or even somewhat lightweight trainers.

A few days off for now as the left calf is in bad shape. Swelling has gone down but it's still pretty sore to walk around on.

Sorry about the bad experiences and DNF. Hope you can figure out the issues soon.
